The first name has been known for a while: Eliott Crestan. The 26-year-old from Namur is a real international frontrunner, taking silver at the European and world indoor championships in the 800 metres. Outdoor, his Belgian record stands at 1:42.43.
Ben Broeders is another ace we are delighted to welcome. The man from Leuven has been one of the world’s best pole vaulters for years, winning the international meeting in Essen, Germany, last month with a 5m75 vault. He recently also shone at the European Team Championships in Slovenia by clearing 5m70.
In the high jump we’re looking forward to five-time Belgian champion Thomas Carmoy. Indoor, Carmoy reached 2m24 over the past winter season, with his personal best at 2m29. In the 400m hurdles Julien Watrin will be one to watch. The 33-year-old Belgian Tornado is the Belgian record holder in that discipline with 48.66.
The Meeting International d’Athlétisme de la Province de Liège will also be welcoming two Belgian leading ladies on the intermediate distances. Elise Vanderelst, 1500m Belgian record holder, will take part in the 5000m in Liège. She is hitting great form as well, having recently taken a new personal record of 15:06.05in Braga, Portugal.
Camille Laus is on the entry list of the 800 metres at the Province Naimette Arena. She also heads to the event with a fresh PR, a 2:01.23 set in Cleveland late May. The result was one of several quick times set in meetings in the United States and Canada.
